Pink Shirt Day - https://pinkshirtday.org.nz/
We will be celebrating Pink Shirt Day on Friday, 17th May. Children can wear something pink with their uniform and bring a donation to support Pink Shirt Day, an anti-bullying fundraising campaign that celebrates diversity and promotes kindness and inclusion.
Over the next few weeks, the children in Pohutakawa Pod will be working with a group of educators from the Porirua City Council, Mountains to Sea project. Mountains to Sea Wellington delivers inspiring freshwater and marine education programmes for schools and community groups and leads restoration projects. Our children will be looking at ways to protect the waterways of Taupo stream and Battlehill.
This week, the whole school started a fun 6 week programme run by Wellington Rugby. Special thanks to Lucy and Seamus, the coaches, who have been planning and running these 30 min sessions across all classes. There are definitely signs of some budding future All Blacks and Black Ferns already!

We are so proud of the work that our Year 5 and 6 students are putting into their performance for ShowQuest 2024. This is an opportunity for student led dance, music, art and drama and the topics chosen come from what is important to the children. The title of our dance is 'Let the children lead the way' and we are all looking forward to seeing them on the stage at the St. James Theatre on 28th May. Thanks to Pauline and Trish for all the work that has gone into the planning of this amazing opportunity.
We are definitely seeing a move into winter weather, so just a reminder that we are now in winter uniform; details can be found on the website.

Gospel Reflection - Sunday, 12th May, 2024
The Ascension of the Lord
Mark 16:15-20
Forty days after His Resurrection, Jesus ascended into Heaven. Mark’s Gospel tells us that a seat was already prepared for Him, at the right hand of God. Jesus sits in this place of honour in heaven because of the love God the Father has for Him. We are reminded at this time that Jesus continues to guide and support us as we endeavour to follow His example.
- Mum’s smile is like the night sky, shining brightly. My Mum is short and she has blue eyes like the blue sky. My Mum shines brightly, especially when she smiles.
-
My Mum has brown hair like chocolate. She is tall like a stack of books.
-
My Mum has eyes like the shimmering ocean, blonde hair like shining stars and a lovely, kind smile that fills me with love.
-
My Mum likes lemon cake with yoghurt and sparkling water for afternoon tea. For dinner she likes fish and chips.
-
I love my Mum because she is kind and caring. She sees when I need help and does something about it.
-
My Mum is medium-sized. She likes to drink V. She likes to eat salads. I think the salads have carrots and leaves in them.
-
My Mum likes to drink coffee in the morning. She says it wakes her up!
-
I love my Mum because she goes for walks with me.
-
My Mum likes to drink milk and she likes eating fruit salad and hot Korean tomato pie with tomato sauce.
-
My Mum has black hair like the colour of black. She has green eyes like green grass.
-
She has lots of wrinkles because she laughs a lot.
-
My Mum has stars in her eyes and she has chocolate-coloured hair. She is as big as my Dad. She is beautiful and glamorous.
-
I love my Mum because she cuddles me on the couch.
-
My Mum likes to wear make-up and a green dress. She wears it to parties at night time.
-
My Mum likes to go to Staglands to see the Kunekune pigs.
-
My Mum has black hair like the bright black night sky. When she smiles it is as bright as the sun. Her eyes are black like space.
We wish you all a very happy Mothers' Day and hope it's everything you want it to be!
Prayer for Mothers: Please bless our Mothers. Ease their worry for the families you entrust to them, guide them in times of doubt and hold them close when they are overwhelmed by both joy and sorrow. May they know our deep gratitude for giving us life and love.
