Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,

We are still looking for a co-ordinator to get the ball rolling for our 2025 March Madness Fair. We have set a date, 22nd March and have a project in mind - upgrading the school pool area, so we just need a co-ordinator to get us started. This could be a 2 person job and there is a team of capable people willing to take responsibility for their stalls once again next year. For more details, talk to Gina or Donna.
A lot of fun was had on Sunday night at the Camp fundraising Quiz. This was a really well-run event. The teachers' team, 'Camp Mothers', are currently still the reigning champs.
Have a great weekend.

Gospel Reflection - Rātapu, 22 Mahuru, 2024
Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mark 9:30-37
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us that the greatest are those who serve all. This Gospel calls us to reflect on how we serve others. God does not care about how popular we are but how generously we serve all, with love.
How we serve others does not have to be big. St. Thérèse of Lisieux calls us to 'Do the little things with great love' and St. Mary MacKillop asks us to 'Never see a need without doing something about it.'
This term, Room 3 has been exploring the journey of the earth around the sun! We've been learning about the seasons, the months of the year and the various celebrations that happen annually. Recently, we began studying the fruits and vegetables that are grown in New Zealand during each season.
In Maths, we've been focusing on geometry. The students have been learning about different shapes, as well as concepts like translation, reflection and rotation. As part of our hands-on learning, we created animals, buildings and modes of transport using different shapes.
Ministry of Health recommendation for keeping sick children at home
In light of the number of unwell children at school at the moment, we would like to remind parents of the Ministry of Health's recommendations for returning to school: Children with diarrhoea or vomiting should stay away from school until they have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days (48 hours).
Summer uniform - Terms 4 and 1
It's nearly time for children to start wearing their summer uniform. This applies to Terms 4 and 1 of each year. We do have a 2 week grace period at the start of Term 4 however, after Labour Day on Monday, 28th October, we expect to see everyone wearing the correct summer uniform. Uniform requirements are available on our website.
Just a reminder - regardless of the weather, it is unacceptable and illegal to park on yellow lines. It also blocks the school bus from passing. Doing the right thing is the best option.
Check out our amazing kōwhai tree - it's currently full of tui, making the most of all the flowers!
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori; Maori Language Week
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is an annual celebration for all New Zealanders to show their support for the Māori language, an official language of this country.
The theme for Te Wiki 2024 is ‘Ake ake ake – A Forever Language’. It represents the resilience, adaptability and endurance of our language. It also reflects the commitment New Zealanders have to embracing and learning te reo Māori long into the future.
Across the school, we have been doing activities to build on our te reo. Some of our activities are:
Kakano Pod has been learning kupu (words) through action songs. Lots of fun learning about our tinana (body);
Pihinga Pod have been building on their kupu (words) through stories;
Pohutukawa Pod and our Cultural Leaders have shown tuakana teina (experts supporting others) by organising cultural activities for ākonga (learners).
Anastasia Bennett, Barbara Murphy, Melissa Adams, Avril Ringrose, Tiffany Fyfe-Gits, Tania Giles and Trish Fitzsimons. We hope you enjoy the spoils!
See our special Dashboard here and catalogue here for te reo dictionaries and bilingaul books. There are also wonderful examples of NZ children’s fiction to add to your must read list.
