Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
It's been wonderful to have our first full week back with the children and so pleased to have the sun shining for us. The children have been enjoying their swimming lessons and the feedback from our EasySwim instructors has been really positive.
We have a lot on over the next couple of weeks with our Hope for Holly Day tomorrow, Meet The Teachers next week and our Beach Picnic next Friday. Please keep an eye on the calendar for updates.
Last week we welcomed Fr. Ravi back to our Parish community and we are grateful to have him supporting us.
As you will be aware we are in the process of implementing a new student management system, HERO. This will streamline admin, teaching and learning communications. As with any new system change we are in the messy stage and we appreciate your patience and support. We will continue to use Seesaw as we navigate through the changes to support a seamless changeover.
Unfortunately we weren't able to complete the turf/field area over the summer break due to contractors, etc. However, we have locked in dates and tradespeople to get the last few bits resolved over the next couple weeks. Our thanks go to the Knights of the Southern Cross for their generous grant of $1000 which will be used in this area.
The turf is super popular and we love seeing it getting used by the children before, during and after school. We ask that children who are here after school are actively supervised by an adult. Also please do not bring wheels onto the school grounds during school hours. This is a Health and Safety matter as children are often moving across the playground at pace during the day. Any child bringing a bike or scooter is reminded to walk their wheels in and out of the gate.
Have a great weekend and long may this summer weather last.
Kia pai tō rā whakatā - Have a great weekend.

Gospel Reflection - Sunday, 16th February, 2025
Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 6:17,20-26
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus teaches the crowds the way to happiness through the lessons in the Beatitudes. Jesus' message of what will bring lasting happiness contrasts with what society tells us; possessions, wealth and the get-ahead culture of today will not bring us lasting joy. We are challenged to change our perception of what success and happiness are. Jesus calls us to seek happiness through the way we act towards others and the effort that we put into our relationship with God.
We have started EasySwim and we will go every morning for two weeks so we are hoping that we will improve. They will also have some safety sessions and we will get to use the life jackets.
Next week we have our first powhiri and some of us will be leading for the first time. Following that will be the Beach Picnic next Friday. It is going to be a fun year.

Hope for Holly - A Special Community Day
Holly O’Connell is a St Theresa’s kid. She began her journey with us in Room 5 last year and was meant to return to Kākano Pod last Tuesday, alongside her friends. However, due to her declining health, Holly and her family, Mum (Frances), Dad (Fraser) and little brother, Levi, have temporarily relocated to Auckland so she can receive treatment at Starship Hospital.
2025 is the Catholic Year of Hope. We want to come together as a school to support Holly and her family. On Friday, 14th February, we will hold a ‘Hope for Holly’ Your Choice Clothing Day. Children can wear their own clothes and bring along a donation to help Holly’s family during this challenging time. We will also be sending messages of love, hope and encouragement to Holly, reminding her that she is always in our thoughts and prayers.
If you would like to contribute, you can send coins on the day or make a deposit into our school bank account (12 3254 0109325 00) using the reference ‘Holly’.
For more details and to offer additional support, you can visit Holly’s Givealittle page: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/hope-for-holly-support-her-and-her-family.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity as we come together in hope for Holly.
